Raise a glass and join in the French revelry as the Franschhoek Wine Valley gears up to host the renowned calendar highlight of Bastille Day.
This year's festival, once again in proud partnership with Prescient, promises the ultimate weekend showcase of the region's finest wines, artisanal fare, live entertainment and a plethora of activities. Held on the 13th and 14th of July at the expansive new venue of Franschhoek High School rugby fields, it will proudly paint the town in the tricolore of France.
Visitors can expect a distinguished line-up of featured wine estates offering exclusive tastings under the iconic marquee. Participating estates include Allée Bleue, Backsberg Family Wines, Bellingham Wines, Boschendal Wine, Chamonix Wine Farm, Dieu Donné Vineyard, Franschhoek Cellar Wines, Gorgeous Cap Classique, Grande Provence Wines, Haute Cabrière, Holden Manz Wine Estate, Klein Goederust Boutique Wine Estate, La Bri Wines, La Motte Wine Estate, Leopard’s Leap Wines, Mel Wines, Mont Rochelle, Old Road Wines Co, Painted Wolf Wines, Rickety Bridge Estate, Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons, Stony Brook Vineyards and Wildeberg.
Prepare for a feast of French-inspired entertainment throughout the weekend festivities. Niël Rademan and friends, including Jacobi de Villiers, accordionist Lucas Heinen, and cellist Anjulie de Vos, will enchant audiences with their eclectic musical repertoire. The Absolutely Fabulous Duo, featuring Sean ‘Styx’ Nunan and vocalist Lisa ‘Mynx’ Hugo, will lead you on a captivating musical journey with their versatile sounds and lastly, the Papier Family, along with the Uncorked Music Academy, will keep the rhythm alive in front of the Town Hall next to Church Street adding an extra layer of vibrancy to the weekend itinerary.
Visitors are also invited to explore the town’s vibrant atmosphere while delighting in special menus across all restaurants, showcasing the beloved favourites of French cuisine.
Franschhoek will also host a diverse array of events, including the Bastille Boules Tournament hosted by Franschhoek SPCA and a screening of the South Africa vs Ireland rugby game on Saturday, July 13th, at various local pubs like Allora Franschhoek, Elephant & Barrel, Hey Joe Brewing Company, Station Pub, Takis Franschhoek and Tuk Tuk Microbrewery. Finally, for the motor enthusiasts, INEOS Grenadier will once again be presenting their serious off-roader and for the more nostalgic- be sure to take a turn on Church Street to view the historic vintage car display.
As always be sure to raid those wardrobes for all things blue, white and red as guests don their finest Bastille ensembles with a host of prizes up for grabs, including the coveted ‘best dressed’ title. Remember to participate in the special lucky draw, set for Sunday, July 14th, where one fortunate ticket holder will win a luxury two-night stay for two people at La Cotte Farm.
