The core ethos at dotsure.co.za is to uplift people and communities thereby helping to create a better world for humans and their furry friends. As South Africa’s leading pet insurance company there is no better fit than for dotsure.co.za to collaborate with the SA Guide-Dogs Association where specially trained dogs not only assist visually impaired people to navigate the world independently; these animals are also devoted companions. The adage, “a dog is man’s best friend” couldn’t be truer than the relationship between a correctly paired guide dog and its owner.
The Guide-Dogs Association's story is one of compassion and dedication. The impact of these dogs goes beyond the individual partnerships. It extends to the broader community. As a non-profit organisation they rely on support from the public to fund the necessary veterinary care, training programmes, and continue their mission of changing lives. This is where dotsure.co.za plays an enormously supportive role for the SA Guide-Dogs Association by covering the costs of more than 50% of the organisation’s total monthly vet bills. This ensures the dogs are kept in optimal health at all times without the worry about medical or health costs. In addition, dotsure.co.za also sponsors the training of some of the future assistance dogs.
“At dotsure.co.za we are committed to playing our part in recognising and supporting the vital role that these assisting canines fulfil as they make a positive difference in the lives of the people they serve,” says Glen Anderson, Managing Executive, Dotsure. “As a company, we believe it is our responsibility to do good, think good and be good for the betterment of those around us. Our ongoing commitment to the SA Guide-Dogs Association is one of our key initiatives that encompasses these three pillars of responsibility.”
Pet insurance means the SA Guide-Dogs Association can improve a life of someone with a physical disability or visual impairment. “With their support, we can give our dogs in training the veterinary care that they need. Making it possible for them to complete their training and go on to help a person in need,” says Adrian Naicker, a qualified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor “This partnership with Dotsure means we can give people living with disabilities better quality of life.”
“Featuring Laylaa Jacobs and her guide dog, Jedi, in our “whole-hearted” pet insurance television advertising campaign highlights the important role guide dogs play in changing the life of a blind person through mobility, independence and freedom. Lending our support to make sure the life-changing process continues with the best veterinary care, is what dotsure.co.za is all about.” adds Glen Anderson.
Beginning their second year together, law student Laylaa Jacobs from says guide dogs enjoy having a routine as they “thrive on structure.” When Jedi is in his harness, it’s strictly a “work only” rule without inter-action. “People are generally most respectful of our work “ethic” and there is always time set aside for playfulness and pats,” says Laylaa who is proud to share Jedi’s accomplishment of receiving a medal when they competed at the Arnold Classics Sports Festival. Between lectures, assignments, studying, sports training and leisure time, Laylaa and Jedi are inseparable. Two special lives intertwined through the support of the SA Guide-Dogs Association and dotsure.co.za.
Leading online pet insurance company, dotsure.co.za supports the guide dog journey by walking alongside the SA Guide-Dogs Association to ensure optimal pet care from puppies to training and adult hood, so that the work of the guide dogs may continue; ultimately changing a life.
