CBD Oil for dogs: What you need to know...

We all know that CBD has taken over the "trend market" by storm, helping so many with ailments and sleep disorders and now there is a solution for your pets too. There is so much information floating around on the net though, so we did some digging and tried it out on our own fur-kids and found what we needed to know.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a chemical compound sourced from the cannabis sativa plant. It is a completely natural substance that one can ingest in order to combat ailments ranging from anxiety and depression, to muscle pain and inflammation.

What does CBD do?

CBD is known for relieving numerous ailments such as anxiety, inflammation, muscle pain, insomnia and more.

Does Human CBD and Pet CBD differ?

The benefits of CBD for humans is solely due to the way the endocannabinoid system (ECS) interacts with the cannabinoids in CBD oils and products. Our endocannabinoid system is a vital biological system involved in the maintenance of our general health. The cannabinoid receptors exist in all areas of the body, connecting our minds to our bodies.

All animals have been found to have an endocannabinoid system (ECS0, so the same could be said for our dogs and cats, which means that CBD affects them in a similar way that it affects us.

So in essence, it’s pretty much the same, but there are a few necessary adjustments that need to be made. The difference comes in with the concentration. For humans, the maximum daily dosage is 20mg per day, and in most circumstances, the recommended daily dosage would be much lower than that. For your pets, as they’re most likely much smaller than you are, the recommended dosage would be much lower.

Even though there’s no concrete standard in dosing CBD oil for pets, you can follow the rough standard of about 1mg per every 0.5kg of their body weight, so you’ll need to check your product for how many milligrams of CBD there are per millilitre of CBD oil.

Remember to always start at the lowest possible dosage and you can work your way up if you feel it’s necessary.

How does CBD affect dogs?

The cannabinoids interact with the canines endocannabinoid receptors that are located in the central and peripheral nervous systems. This in turn helps to maintain the healthy balance state in the body.

Can it treat any health problems?

There is no scientific proof that CBD treats health issues, however there is anecdotal evidence from many dog owners (us included) who have suggested in pain alleviation, especially neuropathic pain as well as helping to control seizures, aggression, anxiety.

What should I look out for in a CBD product?

People interested in using these products should have a conversation with your veterinarian and keep aware of research in the field.

We were sent the Green Leaf Med CBD Oil for Animals to test out on our furry animals and we would love to share our results.

The CBD Oil for Animals "Animal Instinct" is a full spectrum Pharmaceutical Grade 300mg CBD Oil for Animals. There is less than 0.001% TCH present.

So Greenleaf Med CBD Oil for Animals says that it assists with

  • anticonvulsant

  • powerful painkiller

  • anti-cancer effects

  • antiemetic

  • anti-inflammatory

  • promotes homeostasis

  • stress reliever

  • treatment of seizures

  • treatment of skin conditions

The one furkid had skin issues so we were very excited to try this out on her. With long-term usage, I think this would inevitably heal up and clear her skin condition. Her rash seems to have lessened and she is noticeably scratching less. The other ailment we explored treating on the other dog, was anxiety. From separation anxiety, to the stress of a Joburg Thunder storm, this was a blessing in disguise. It didn't magically cure her, or take away her complete stress, but it most certainly made her more relaxed and comfortable during these storms (which we have had many of late - so yes worth it). Applied on skin or orally ingested. 100% safe for animals - and they love the taste!

If you are as besotted with your fur-kids as we are, then Pet CBD Oil is a definite yes from us.

Order yours today, make a difference in your pet's day-to-day life.
