5 minutes with Talented Singer, Chad Saaiman!

Chad Saaiman is a South African singer and songwriter signed to StereoType Records. His music is a fusion of RnB, Soul and Pop. He has has been performing professionally for over a decade and has graced many stages in the cities of Cape Town, London, Johannesburg and several other big cities worldwide. Sa Life Magazine sat down with the talented artist and got to know him a bit better for our readers entertainment.

Describe yourself in 5 words?

Happy. Motivated. Stubborn. Creative. Sporty.

What was your childhood like?

My childhood was fun and simple.

When did you first discover a love for the entertainment industry?

At the age of 16 when I sang to a crowd for the first time, I knew that this is what I would do.

Who are you when you’re simply at home, on a Sunday afternoon?

I am very relaxed, probably resting or writing a song. A rare occasion.

Who do you admire within the South African entertainment industry, and why?

I admire Black Coffee for always pushing the limits and representing us in a way that we are all proud of.

How do you deal with negative criticism?

Pretty well. If you put anything out into the public domain, you need to be prepared for negative criticism. The constructive kind is obviously the best.

Who is your role model and why?

I don't have one in particular, but I do look up to many people. My brother is one of them. So is David Beckham. So is Pharrell Williams.

Where’s the most interesting place you have travelled to and why?

I love Barcelona, it's just a great city with so much variety.

What motto or words do you live by?

Make a living, living.

We all know that the media doesn’t always get all their info correct, what is the strangest thing you have read about yourself that wasn’t true?

I read that I was getting married once.

You have a growing following on social media! What is the most memorable tweet you have received or been tagged in?

That there was a hoax and that someone needed to explain the uncanny resemblance between Lewis Hamilton and I.

Everybody starts their working careers off small, what was your very first job?

I worked at a ladies shoe store called Orange.

The entertainment industry is a tough industry to break into. What encouraging words do you have for anyone starting out?

Educate yourself regarding the business side of it. Work harder than everyone else in the room. Have fun.

In your line of work, you get to meet a wide variety of people. Who was your most memorable?

Meeting Ronaldinho the Brazilian footballer in Dubai was a highlight!

I am sure you have encountered a few fans along the way, what has been your favourite fan encounter?

I remember once meeting a fan who told me that one of my songs kept her going and got her through a really tough time after losing a family member. That's what it's about for me. The music has the power.

Did you always see yourself in the entertainment industry, or did you have different dreams as a child?

I actually didn't always see myself in entertainment, I wanted to be a professional soccer player.

What has been your most challenging decision in your career thus far? What made it so challenging?

I think relocating to my hometown Cape Town, after a 4 year stint in JHB. Geography and location are vital aspects in one's career, however it was a great decision in hindsight.
